Name: Matilda Carlqvist
Study programme: Industrial and Environmental Biotech, KTH
Role in iGEM team: Drylab research
Fun fact: I don't like when people can't make up their minds, but I am quite indecisive myself...
If you love food like me, it’s great to have a friend like Matilda! Not only is she smart, she’s also quite the cook! What she enjoys the most is cooking and baking for her family and friends. If she gets to pick the dish, she would cook sweet potato curry with spinach, broccoli and chickpeas – I wouldn't object to that, yummy in the tummy! Eating this dish, she says that she can feel how happy her gut microbiota and tummy get, and this is after reading a book by Giulia Enders (a book that actually made her interested in biotechnology in the first place!!).
Matilda is the coziest person in the team, she loves spending time in the couch reading a good book while sipping a cup of green tea. She doesn't fancy going out partying as much as she likes having a great conversation over a glass of wine with her friends. "I'm a real grandma in that sense, and I also get so satisfied when going to bed before 11 pm!". But she does like to get out of the couch, and not only for our iGEM meetings! She lived in China for a while, but if she could pick a place to travel, it would be Hawaii due the incredible nature! Just like Professor Shellback, Matilda seems to have a “food and sleep watch” - but hers is also having set times where she’s working hard! (for iGEM of course!)
After many years of learning about concepts and techniques in theory with a limited experience in the lab, Matilda felt that she wanted to challenge herself and apply to iGEM. She longed for applying everything she’s learned in practice to solving a "real world problem". She also wanted to grow as an engineer, team player and problem solver! In that case, I can assure you that iGEM is a perfect choice for you!
Thanks for being a part of this year’s iGEM Stockholm team, Professor Shellback!
