Name: Vilma Lagebro
Study programme: Biotechnology, KTH
Role in iGEM team: Human Practices
Fun fact: Vilma is crazy about everything that has potatoes in it, like she is obsessed with potatoes (fries, mash, baked, crisps). Imagine eating potatoes for the rest of your life, goals! Oh, and she loves animals that look like sausages, take guinea pigs as an example!
How do you spell excited? Well, I know! It is spelled V-I-L-M-A! Vilma is the team’s most excited member. She doesn’t have a need for speed, because the speed chose her. When she starts talking about the things she’s passionate about, she could go on for hours. Not like the boring lecturers in the front of the classroom kind of talk, but the one that really gets you motivated to listen and get more involved!
However, being excited takes a lot of energy, and a cozy night in is a winner. Vilma has extremely bad luck, and not only in board and card games. She unfortunately suffers from chronic pain, resulting from a car accident (she was actually in two in less than a month). The reason for why she wanted to join the iGEM Stockholm team is because she wants to get more knowledge in being in a lab, and also to be a part of a big project.
What we like about her is that she is very honest and open about herself. Her pet peeve is people that can’t accept that people are different from themselves. When that happens, she would just want to go hide in the Galapagos Islands, which is her dream destination. Vilma is an inspired soul, and also a swimming coach for children, hence her nickname speedy speedo. She’s almost as quick as a seal in water, and if she would pick an animal alter ego, that would be the one. But I am quite happy about her not being a seal, it would be pretty hard to hold a pipette then (and also you wouldn’t need to wear a speedo bathing suit so I would have to find a new nickname for you)!
Thanks for being a part of this year’s iGEM Stockholm team, speedy speedo!
